How Freedom Power Became the First Generac Platinum Dealer in Texas and Florida

Generac doesn't hand out its top dealer status easily. To reach Platinum, an installer has to prove real expertise across Generac's entire home energy ecosystem: solar, battery storage, and backup generators, plus meet the strictest bar Generac sets for training, performance, and customer experience. Freedom Power is now the first dealer in Texas and Florida to hit that mark, and the largest Generac solar and storage dealer in either state.

It's a milestone worth putting in context, because it didn't happen in a vacuum. It's the direct result of a strategy shift that started when Washington pulled the rug out from under residential solar.

The ITC Goes Away

For nearly two decades, the 30% federal solar tax credit (Section 25D) was the backbone of the residential solar industry. Homeowners who financed or paid cash for a system could count on that credit to make the math work. The Inflation Reduction Act had extended it at 30% all the way through 2032, with a slow phase-down after that.

Then came the One Big Beautiful Bill. Signed into law on July 4, 2025, it eliminated Section 25D outright, with no phase-down and no soft landing. Any residential system that isn't paid for and installed by December 31, 2025 simply doesn't get the credit. For an industry that had built its entire sales model around that 30% number, this was a gut punch, not a trim.

There's a narrow lane still open for prepaid PPAs and third-party-owned systems under the commercial 48E credit, which sticks around through 2027. But for straightforward homeowner-purchased solar, the federal incentive that powered the industry's growth is simply gone starting in 2026.

Why Freedom Power Pivoted

Bret Biggart, Freedom Power's CEO, has been vocal about the fact that this fight over incentives isn't new, and that the industry's job is to keep serving homeowners regardless of which way Washington leans in a given year. That mindset is exactly what shaped Freedom Power's response.

Rather than treat the ITC's expiration as a reason to shrink, Freedom Power treated it as a reason to build out. If the tax credit was the thing making solar-only deals pencil out for customers, the answer wasn't to sell harder on solar alone. It was to become a company that could solve the whole home energy problem, with or without a federal subsidy attached.

That's the thinking behind the last year of expansion: standby generators, whole-home battery storage, ecobee smart thermostats, and full HVAC service, all under one roof alongside solar. It's also behind the financing pivot, building out both a prepaid PPA option through Maxwell Power and a monthly plan through Palmetto's LightReach Energy Plan, so homeowners still have a path to going solar that doesn't hinge on a tax credit that no longer exists.

Lauren Martin, Freedom Power's CMO, made a similar point in a recent conversation with Solar Power World: solar's value to a home doesn't evaporate when a tax incentive does. Resale value, energy independence, and protection from rising utility rates were never dependent on Washington in the first place. That's the story Freedom Power has leaned into as the ITC conversation shifted.

The Ecosystem Play

Generac's Platinum tier isn't given for volume in any one category. It requires the same level of proven, trained, certified expertise across solar, battery, and generators, which is exactly the direction Freedom Power was already headed for other reasons. Freedom Power became Generac's exclusive Texas partner for the new PWRcell 2 home battery, has built its generator business into a core service line, and rolled ecobee's smart thermostat into its whole-home approach as a control layer that ties solar, storage, backup power, and HVAC together.

Put simply, the same strategy that helped Freedom Power get ahead of the post-ITC market is what made it a fit for Generac's highest dealer designation in the first place. Diversifying wasn't a defensive move. It ended up being the thing that made Freedom Power the strongest Generac partner in two of the biggest energy markets in the country.

What This Means for Homeowners

For Texas and Florida homeowners, Platinum status means one thing in practice: Freedom Power is qualified to design, install, and service the full Generac ecosystem to the highest standard Generac certifies, rather than just one piece of it. Solar, battery, and backup power engineered as one system, by one team, with financing options that don't depend on a federal tax credit that no longer applies.

The ITC changed. Freedom Power's job didn't.
